NUNK
Formed in 2022, Paul David Stone (percussionist) and Mark Nelson (vocals & guitars) stem from the Mark Nelson Blues Band (a more acoustically based Blues outfit).
Mark writes the majority of the material which is heavily influenced by The Black Keys, Seasick Steve and Graham Coxon and, whilst often blues-based, is much darker and grittier than any of the Blues band’s material.
SO WHY NUNK?
Once upon a time, many moons ago there came to this land a travelling punk blues troubadour named Robert. Robert, the third lord of Log county in the Untied States of Amerika. He crossed the oceans in a rubber dinghy clad solely in a lycra jump suit and crash helmet with only a rubber duck as first mate.
Coming aground on the shores of Guildford, Robert proclaimed a great show of bombastic blues riffs, summoning unto him a huge throng who feasted on toast and quaffed Bucks Fizz. Among them were the members of the Mark Nelson Trio who offered up their own blues in anticipation of the coming performance.
Robert heard the Trio and decided that it was good, he announced “From this day forth you shall be known as NUNK (all capitals)”. Well the Mark Nelson Trio were suitably bemused, suspected bad hearing and carried on as before, but the seeds of destiny had been sown.
So it came to pass that a time of great pestilence ravaged the land and members of the Mark Nelson Band were scattered to four corners of the globe. The two remaining members emerged from a dark box, cast their eyes around them and were filled with angst and rage. Their new music, louder and punkier could only be described by the one name that had been foretold by fate long before, the name: NUNK (all capitals) …
